Her practice is centered on corporate and financial markets law, with a strong emphasis on corporate and governance issues affecting both private and public companies. She advises clients on M&A, capital markets, and compliance matters, with a particular focus on corporate governance, capital increases, disclosure obligations of listed companies, public M&A, financial reporting and accounting regulations, and other extraordinary transactions involving regulated entities.
Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Corporate Law and Financial Markets Regulation at Bocconi University (qualified as Associate Professor of Corporate Law in May 2022).
Maria Lucia graduated with honors in Law from Bocconi University and has since built a robust academic and professional career. She holds an LL.M. from Harvard Law School and a Ph.D. in Business Law from Bocconi. Her academic journey includes appointments as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Luxembourg, a John M. Olin Fellow in Empirical Law and Finance and a Fellow of the Program on Corporate Governance at Harvard. She has also been recognized with several awards, including the Carl Liggio Memorial Award granted by the Association of Corporate Counsel (2025), Nova 111 List – Legal Services (2025), the ECB Legal Research Programme Award (2024), Harvard’s Dean’s Scholar Prize (2021), the Felice Gianani Award from the Italian Banking Association (2018).
She has published extensively in the fields of corporate law and financial regulation, with her work appearing in leading law journals in both the EU and the United States. She currently serves on the Editorial Board of Rivista delle società and Giurisprudenza italiana.
Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Maria Lucia gained valuable experience working with leading international law firms in London and Milan.

Advised joint book-running managers on SEB (Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken)’s Rule 144A / Reg. S offering of fixed-rate and floating-rate notes, issued under its global MTN and covered bonds program.*
Assistance to Intesa Sanpaolo in its transition to the one-tier governance system.*
