Panoramic: Automotive and Mobility 2025
The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has confirmed that the new subscription contract rules under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (DMCCA) won't now take effect until autumn 2026 at the earliest - a delay from the previously expected spring 2026 start.
As outlined in our article, the DMCCA introduces new rules for subscription contracts, including stricter requirements for pre-contract information, clearer presentation of key terms, mandatory auto-renewal reminders, and enhanced cancellation and termination rights. However, before these rules can take effect, the government must pass secondary legislation to clarify key details and formally implement the regime. The UK government therefore consulted on various aspects of the new rules to inform development of secondary legislation and guidance.
Following the public consultation (which closed in February 2025), the DBT confirmed in November 2025 that the introduction of the new rules would be pushed back to give businesses more time to prepare.
Watch this space for more details as the government works to finalise the new rules.
