On 6 June 2025, we hosted an online webinar on the use of surplus in defined benefit (DB) pension schemes, in light of the Pension Schemes Bill and the government’s response to its consultation on "Options for Defined Benefit Schemes".
Edward Brown, Pensions partner, explained the legal implications of the surplus provisions in the new Bill and of the government's wider proposals, while Ben Stone, Risk Transfer partner from Mercer, explained how the changes may impact schemes' ongoing funding and endgame strategies.
