Recognised as a “key lawyer” and a “highly rated associate” in the Life sciences and healthcare sector by Legal 500 2025, Helen Poulson is a Senior Associate in our London Patents team.

Helen’s focus is on complex, cross-border patent disputes and advisory work in the Life sciences sector. She has represented her global clients in the UK High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Helen complements her legal expertise with a scientific training. She graduated from Imperial College London with a First Class Honours Biochemistry degree. Prior to making the move into law, she lectured biochemistry at a UK-based university.

Representative experience

Advising an international pharmaceutical company at the EPO on its small molecule blockbuster.

Preparing a global biologics company for multi-jurisdictional biosimilar litigation around its antibody products.

Representing BMS and Pfizer in the High Court and the Court of Appeal against Sandoz and Teva regarding apixaban.

Acting for Akebia Therapeutics and Otsuka in their multi-patent litigation with FibroGen in relation to vadadustat.

Representing Rhodia in an action for damages against Neo for patent infringement in the High Court and Court of Appeal (2020-2023) (won Managing IP Impact Case of the Year 2024).

Acting for MSD in relation to its Januvia® and Janumet® products.
