Hugo worked with the firm’s Paris and Hong Kong offices prior to joining the team in Singapore, and has experience dealing with arbitrations under leading institutional rules in both civil and common law systems, including ICC, SIAC, HKIAC, and UNCITRAL. He specialises in disputes in M&A, construction, energy, aerospace, and financial shareholdings.
As a Frenchman having grown up and lived most of his life in Asia, Hugo is happiest when dealing with complex cross-border issues involving multiple jurisdictions. He is also a keen sport enthusiast with a soft spot for rugby and touch rugby, and is heavily involved in pro bono work, both in Singapore and with the Paris Bar.
Acting for infrastructure funds in a SIAC arbitration relating to indemnity claims arising out of a securities purchase agreement in relation to infrastructure projects worth over USD150 million.
Counsel to a client in the oil and gas sector in a SIAC arbitration (Singapore law and seat). Successfully defeated claims of breach of contract and misrepresentation in excess of USD160 million.
Acting for a global internet company in three related HKIAC arbitrations (values in dispute of USD 95, 54 and 39 million) concerning redemption rights and the exercise of put options by investors.
Representing a PRC‑listed company in an arbitration concerning termination of an exclusive cooperation agreement and related IP infringement claims against a Swedish company (HKIAC, Hong Kong seat).
Counsel to the owners in a dispute arising out of various EPC contracts for a power project of national significance in East Africa. Claims and counterclaims exceed USD110 million.
Acting for a cryptocurrency business in HKIAC arbitrations concerning warranty claims arising out of share sale and purchase agreements, and claims and counterclaims under a shareholders’ agreement.
Counsel to an Indonesian energy company in a SIAC arbitration against a leading FSRU provider for disputes arising out of a lease, operation and maintenance agreement amounting to over USD400 million.
Representing a Japanese corporation in ICC arbitration against an EPC contractor regarding unpaid invoices under a services contract in relation to the construction of a water desalination plant.
Representing a private equity firm in a dispute arising out of the sale and purchase of an education business in Vietnam (SIAC, Singapore seat).
Securing a win for a Bolivian company facing corruption allegations in a commercial dispute against a leading European aeronautics conglomerate.*
Advising a U.S. pharmaceutical company in a dispute with its Hong Kong-listed partner relating to breaches of the Exclusive License Agreement between parties.
