For over 25 years Renato Antonini has represented clients on global trade legal and regulatory issues, in particular advising on EU trade matters, such as EU trade remedies investigations, sanctions, export controls and customs, as well as WTO trade law and trade remedies investigations in other jurisdictions.

He has a track record in achieving successful outcomes for clients before EU Courts, the European Commission and national regulators. Renato successfully assisted Jinan Meide Casting Co. Ltd, one of the largest manufacturers worldwide, in two landmark judgements of the European Court of Justice General Court concerning imports of threaded tube or pipe cast fittings, of malleable cast iron, originating from China. He also represented Jindal Saw Ltd, an international manufacturer headquartered in India, in two landmark judgments in cases concerning imports of tubes and pipes of ductile cast iron originating from India.

Renato advises international companies operating globally, and across all industries, in particular in steel manufacturing, chemicals, energy, and financial services as well as Sovereign states.

Representative experience

Secured the lowest duty rate for a Hong Kong biodiesel manufacturer and obtained the exclusion of SAF in an EU anti-dumping investigation on imports of biodiesel from China.*

Secured the lowest duty rate for a US PVC manufacturer in an EU anti-dumping investigation on PVC imports from, inter alia, the US.*

Secured the lowest duty rate for a leading EV manufacturer in the context of the EU anti-subsidy investigation regarding Battery Electric Vehicles from China.*

Assisted a Government in various WTO disputes at the panel as well as Appellate Body stage.*

Advised a US company in the energy sector on obtaining an amendment to EU sanctions for a derogation relevant to its products.*

Advised a US company in the chemicals sector on obtaining authorisations under EU sanctions for it to be able to continue to supply goods and services.*

Advised a global battery manufacturer on various aspects of the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation.*

Obtained the annulment of the EU’s countervailing and anti-dumping duties on imports of tyres for buses or lorries originating in China of the CCCME and CRIA.*
