Elizabeth advises on inbound and outbound tax-planning considerations, including treaty issues, effectively connected income (including under the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA)), the foreign tax credit, the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and the rules applicable to controlled foreign corporations and passive foreign investment companies.
Elizabeth has experience advising private equity funds, sovereign wealth funds, foreign pension funds, non-U.S. banks, international sports organizations, high-net-worth individuals, and other foreign investors in the United States. She has also advised hedge funds, private equity funds, and real estate investment funds in connection with fund formation transactions, acquisitions, and restructurings.
Elizabeth was previously seconded to the Hogan Lovells’ Paris office, where she came to intimately understand the European market and deal structures that are unique to France and other parts of Europe. This practical experience allows her to help clients efficiently navigate their tax and business concerns involving cross-border transactions between the United States and Europe.
Prior to joining the firm, Elizabeth worked as a tax associate in the New York office of another global law firm. While in law school, Elizabeth served as the Executive Editor of the Virginia Journal of International Law and she received the Edwin S. Cohen Tax Prize given to the graduating student who has demonstrated, by the sustained excellence of his or her performance in tax courses, superior scholarship in the tax area. Elizabeth and her team also won the International and European Tax Moot Court Competition.
